Hearing Study Supplemental Questionnaire (HSSQ)
As you may know, hearing loss is an extremely common condition. However, the risk factors that contribute to hearing loss, other than age, have not been sufficiently studied. Your participation will help us identify risk factors for hearing loss. Of course, for this study, we need to include women who do not have hearing loss as well as those who do.
The following questionnaire contains a series of questions about your hearing and exposure to noise. It should take less than 30 minutes to fill out - for most people it will take 20 minutes or less. If you regularly use any type of hearing aid, please answer the questions as if you were not using that hearing aid. As always, you do not need to answer any question you do not wish to answer, and all of your answers will be kept confidential.

The Hearing Study Supplemental Questionnaire (HSSQ) was previously sent to a subset of participants in both the Nurses' Health Study and the Nurses' Health Study II. We have now opened it up for any Nurses’ Health Study or Nurses’ Health Study II participant to complete the HSSQ through the link above.
The HSSQ is designed to obtain a wide range of information regarding hearing health, such as personal and family history of hearing loss, medical conditions and/or medications that may influence hearing, and lifetime exposure to noise. If you are interested in completing the questionnaire, we would like to welcome you into the CHEARS Study and we would be extremely grateful for your participation. As always, all information you provide will remain strictly confidential. Please see the FAQ’s section or contact us with any further questions regarding participation.
